Joris joined the HotelloTOP team in June 2021 as our Industry Relations Officer. He makes sure that there are many interesting Industry Partners joining us during the EMCup competition days to meet Young Talents. He will also be involved in other HotelloTOP initiatives, including one TOP SECRET new project that will take place in 2022. But who is the man behind the phone? Read on to find out!
Young Joris
As a young 10-year old boy, Joris was already washing dishes as a steward in his father’s horeca company. He quickly learned to walk with a tray of drinks and how to serve them at family parties. “And nobody should try to serve themselves… that was my job” as Joris added. It was clear that he wanted a career in the hospitality industry. This is why he graduated from Hotel Management School NHL Stenden in 1998. A true Hotello, Joris mostly worked in commercial functions with former hotel chain Starwood, related to meetings and events, in the United States, Belgium and Spain. In 2007, Joris started his own company under the “HelmsBriscoe” brand, which helps customers to find the perfect venue for their meetings or events around the globe.
His passion and drive
Joris’ goal for HotelloTOP is to get as quickly as possible back to pre-COVID quality and participant numbers. This means for him that, after the Year Event, Hotello’s will be enthusiastic to come and participate in the next edition. This is applicable for the EMCup as well. The online edition was great, but nothing beats the actual LIVE competition days in Maastricht. This is why Joris is very busy right now to get in contact with a lot of potential partners for the 2022 edition. Another dream is to surpass the ROI for the events initiated by HotelloTOP for Hotello’s. Last but not least, Joris would also love to meet new faces and welcome them during the HotelloTOP events, including the EMCup.
How about off days?
When things are not going as planned for Joris, he has 3 tricks: first, a good night’s sleep does miracles. It really helps to clear the mind and get back into a positive mood. Secondly, a good pep-talk with his lovely partner works too. Finally, keep believing and tell yourself it will be alright. Thinking about good memories would a bonus trick.
